This year will see the revival of the Miss Gay UK competition. Organiser Leah Shafik and her partner Nina, will be holding regional heats throughout the year before a final to decide the overall winner in Novemeber 2007.
Speaking about the idea for the competition Leah said, "Our idea to organise the Miss GayUK competition came from a discussion we had, raising the question, are you a woman who is gay or are you a gay woman? The difference is slight but significant."
So what qualities are they looking for in a Miss GayUK? A woman who can best represent the modern day Lesbian in the UK and can be a role model within the Gay communities. Each entrant will be required to represent themselves externally as well as internally. Throughout the whole competition, entrants will be helping local charities by fundraising during each heat and the final. The person who raises the most money in the heat will be given bonus points which could help put them in the lead to win the heat but will also give them the opportunity, in the final, to be crowned Miss GayCharity.
"We intend each heat to be a fun evening and to raise the lesbian profile on a generally male dominated scene." Leah added. "We are extremely excited about the competition and cant wait for the first event to take place to see all of our hard work come to fruition."
