Guide To Pride

by Toni Turner

The nature of Pride has changed over the years. The fight for full equality is not over, and the visibility that Pride gives is still crucial but what was once a day that focused on political marches demanding equal rights is now more of a celebration of the GLBT community. So girls, let’s celebrate in style!

Whether you are coming to march in the parade with your friends and family, be entertained by the hottest acts or are hoping for a fun packed day of drinking and debauchery London Pride will not disappoint you! There are many events and parties being held over the day so here are a few that stand out ...

The Parade
The parade will make its way down Oxford Street and Regent Street through the heart of London’s West End. This year’s theme for any of you that will be dressing up is “Icons”. Assembly will be in Baker Street from 11.00, and the parade leaves at 1.00.

Pride March

The Womens Stage
The GaydarGirls Women's Stage will kick-off from 15:00 is located on Romilly Street featuring the best in music and comedy from across the women's scene. All of the acts look set to be great but I’d recommend you don’t miss these:

15:00 DJ Lil Jo (Channel 4 Shipwrecked, Missshapes and PLAY)
19:30 Voodoo Hussy NME Breaking Bands Finalist

The Main Stage
There will be a fabulous afternoon of entertainment, speakers, community and music on the Main Stage in Trafalgar Square. The highlights on this stage include:

16:24 Axe Girl
18:01 Dragonettes

Most importantly having a london that compares to brighton only happens once a year.
the ability to feel comfortable walking down the road holding hands with your partner without the fear of jaunts.
watching people celebrate who they are and what they stand for.
and of course, the ladies.
the alcohol. the clubs. =o)

The alcohol and the laydees although not in that order
