Heavenly Creatures

by Toni

In the days before camp hobbits and wizards, Peter Jackson directed low budget horror films. Heavenly Creatures, originally released in 1994, was his first more mainstream effort. The film features the screen debuts of Melanie Lynskey and Kate Winslet. Lynskey, who for the record is a damn sight hotter now than she was then, plays the dark moody teen that no-one likes whilst Kate Winslet brings some pre-Titanic English class to this flick set in New Zealand.

Heavenly Creatures - Blu-Ray

Lynskey plays 14-year old misfit Pauline Parker, a girl troubled by hairy legs, bad parenting and the ability to look somewhat evil. Enter Winslet's character Juliet Hulme, who transfers to Pauline's school, thanks to her wealthy parents who have decided to live in New Zealand. Juliet is everything Pauline is not; attactive and confident with a touch of arrogance. The two girls form an unlikely friendship which turns into obsession and the creation of a strange fantasy world called Borovnia. In this gothic world, characters are made of clay, and its all a litte odd really.

As the story plays out, the girls take ever extreme measures to stay together despite having come to the attention of their parents. Interweaved in their odd friendship are suggestions of a sexual relationship, as they retreat more and more to their imaginary world. Now very concerned, Pauline's mother sends her to see a phsycologist, who in true 1950's style gives the bombshell "homosexual" diagnosis. With Pauline's relationship with her mother now in tatters, the pair hatch a scheme to kill her. Some might say this is a tad extreme, but with a mother like her, who can blame her? This is further compounded by Juliets parents wishing to divorce and send her to South Africa. With the threat of now being seperated forever, you can start to understand what a pickle they are now in.

To give any more away would be tip-toeing across the spoiler line. I think its fair to say I personally enjoyed my Nacho's more than the film but don't let that stop you.

That is a wise blog site. I imply it. You might have a lot knowledge about this issue, and so much paosisn. You also understand how to produce individuals rally behind it, obviously from your responses. Youve received a design right here thats not too flashy, but helps make a statement as massive as what youre saying. Wonderful job, in fact.VA:F [1.9.10_1130]please wait...VA:F [1.9.10_1130](from 0 votes)

"hairy legs, bad parenting" Hairy legs is bad parenting! :l
Is the parenting bad enough to justify the crime? Is it a dark romeo and juliet?

I can't picture Kate committing murder, although maybe it better explains why she let go of poor Leo's hand in Titanic. Hahaha.

I choose Louise from Big Brother. Fit!

Chilling film! I saw the original when it was first released was before Winslet was famous. Like someone else said her acting isnt up to the standard it is in Titanic but you can just tell there is something magical about her. (Hilary Duff for competition entry)
