LoveGirls can't resist the opportunity to do some glamorous reporting so we jumped on plane with a load of snowboard equipment and went to Whistler in Canada for some downhill action. Ok, so we're lying we went to Xscape in Leeds, but its almost as good as the real thing.
It's real snow, real lifts & real people throwing themselves down an ski slope. We took one gullible model, attached a snowboard to her and laughed as we pushed her down the hill with arms and legs flailing.
Luckily we also had a pro-boarder to catch her at the bottom in the shape of Jo Chastney, so a hospital visit was thankfully averted!
This ain’t your mother’s idea of a slumber party! The Pillow Fight League (PFL) is a group of ass kickin’ gals with serious attitude! The Toronto born brainchild of Stacey Case is gaining momentum and worldwide attention. With recent appearances on Good Morning America, Howard Stern’s Sirius Satellite Radio Show, MTV Canada, and Much Music the buzz is spreading! At first glance many think the PFL is a joke – somebody must be kidding, right? However, if you enter a crowded bar and watch these ladies clobber each other in the ring, there will be no doubt that you are watching skilled, trained, women in a legitimate sport.
Hot on the heels of a hugely successful resurgence in the United States, the London Rollergirls are the first league to bring the new revival of Women's flat-track, full-contact rollerderby to the UK. Through word of mouth, fundraiser events and self promotion they are successfully introducing the capital to this unique, full-contact rollersport as they train, practice, and learn together while working towards putting on their first public game.
It can be argued that the media heavily influences how society functions. Everyday, we are exposed to media in many forms, from picking up a paper or magazine and watching our favourite TV programmes or football match. More recently, the internet has driven media in new directions and it far more common for people to share their lives through public media gateways like You Tube. Conventional media methods such as billboards are also thriving, and on every street corner we are constantly reminded that we need to buy a coke or that latest mobile phone.
